We are always looking to find a drink that we can enjoy that's something other than water. This recipe is from a project I worked on with a classmate at school, we made it for Toni and her co-workers at their office for part of an assignment. After trying it, it quickly became one of my favorites along with everyone in Toni's office. The ingredients are very simple and its the perfect thirst quenching beverage on a hot summer day.
I call this a detox drink because so many of the ingredients have qualities about them that promote health and detoxing of the body, it's hard to name them all in a short blog post. The coconut water, ginger, and citrus fruit are all great at flushing out toxins in our bodies (kidneys and specifically) while also providing antioxidants and other nutrients. Coconut water is great for hydration, which makes this drink something I reach for after a long run to help replenish fluids lost through sweating.
All around this drink tastes delicious and the ingredients are very beneficial for our bodies. I hope you'll give it try and let me know what you think.
Citrus and Coconut Detox Drink
Yield: About 40 ounces
Ingredients:
34 oz. unsweetened coconut water
2 oranges, juiced
2 limes, juiced
2 lemons, juiced
1 tbsp. fresh ginger, grated
1-2 tbsp. agave nectar (sweeten according to preference)
1 sprig fresh mint
Directions:
1. Combine all of the ingredients together in a pitcher and stir well to combine.
2. Chill in the refrigerator and enjoy.
Notes:
The drink may separate a little bit after sitting in the refridgerator, simply give it a little stir before drinking.
If the mint starts to discolor after a day or so of being in the drink, simply discard it; the mint flavor will still be in the drink.
